What To Expect From Your Home Security Cameras
Setting The Right Expectations For Home Surveillance
POSTED 07/07/2010 by Andy Wendt
What you Should expect from a Home CCTV Security Camera System:
Having the right expectations prior to any project is a critical first step on any project. Without this step you will certainly lessen your chance of ending the project with a positive outcome. One of the first things to expect from your home based security camera system is that any type or number of camera connected to a system that both records and provides remote access is better than no system at all. Using the cameras in a logical manner, such as in areas that restrict the movement of the people you might wish to surveil is an important step to having a good number of expectations realized.
When it comes to budget expectations it's no secret that the key to a good home security system is buying the best technology you can afford and implementing it in an effective manner. In our opinion that starts with a quality standalone Digital Video Recorder (DVR) and affordable cameras in either dome or bullet styles for use either inside or out. As of this writing I would expect any "modern" DVR to come standard with at least a 500GB hard drive to store your recorded video, it will have remote view options across the internet, and even remote view options from your iPhone, Android, Blackberry, or Windows based smartphone. When it comes to expectations of budget you should expect to spend from $950 for a four camera Indoor/Outdoor system to $1900 for an Indoor/Outdoor eight camera system. Similar systems with indoor only dome cameras would range from $850 for a four camera system to $1600 for an eight camera system. Of course those are entry level prices and for those with the mind and the means higher end cameras and DVR's can be used when the situation requires.
