Shepherd Wireless CCTV Audio Video Transmission System
An Industrial Wireless Camera Solution Featuring Pan Tilt Zoom and Audio Support
posted by Andy WendtI have been looking over this product for months now, reading spec sheets, listening to podcasts, and talking to reps. Finally I think it’s time to tell the our clients what we know about this new wireless camera technology and how it can be of benefit.
First of all we are talking about the Shepherd SH-200 and SH-600 Outdoor All-in-one Digital 5.9Ghz Audio Video Transmission System from DERYTECH. These products are combatable with any CCTV camera on the market today and include pan-tilt-zoom support. They use an encrypted digital MPEG4 audio video stream across a built in powerful 14dB or 23dB antenna. These signals can transmit video and audio signals at distances of up to 4 miles with the SH-600.
In case you are wondering what these devices are used for lets first of all start with what they are not: This is not a home solution. It’s not the way to watch the “nanny cam”. It’s not the way to avoid running wires in an area that can be wired but you don’t want to because the cost of copper is going up.
This is a serious commercial product designed to get video from places that are truly impractical to wire because of the distances involved are measured in miles and not feet. The Shepherd Wireless Transmission System excels in places like public parks, large factories, extremely remote gats, large parking lots, and countless other scenarios in which a “first rate” remote surveillance solution is needed for hard to reach locations.
One final feature before we refer you to the manufactures spec sheets for further information is the Shepherds ability to connect to each other and act in “Repeater Mode” to install a series of units to extend their range almost indefinitely. As I mentioned to a caller last week I just learned that a few of the smaller Islands in the Hawaiian chain are actually connected using such a series of Shepherd Audio Video Transmission Systems. One last amazing feature that’s not extremely obvious is that the Shepherd can accept hard wired cameras and then wireless transmits multiple video signals, along with PTZ and audio information to the receiver.
Before you get overly excited, keep in mind that the Shepherd still requires a clear line of sight to its receiver or the next Shepherd component in the series, but the transmitters and receivers can be purchased separately meaning that clusters of individual transmitters can be connected to a single receiver allowing the communication chain to be made of less expensive individual components.
